Founded in 2022, Southbound has quickly grown to become a well-loved brand across South Canterbury. If you appreciate coffee crafted with heart, sustainability, and a deep connection to community, you’re going to fall in love with their roasts.
Born on the Trail, Rooted in Geraldine
The inspiration behind Southbound started on foot. The founders backpacked across Aotearoa and hiked the entire length of the South Island, falling head over heels for Geraldine—a charming town full of great people, vibrant energy, and incredible local food.
As the founder puts it:
"We've backpacked around New Zealand, we have hiked the whole length of the South Island and we fell in love with Geraldine. A town full of great people and amazing food. And now, fresh Specialty grade coffee.
What we do, we do it to be a part of the community, to promote a lifestyle focusing on direct contact with people, creating links and relationships along the way with our customers and suppliers."

In 2025, Southbound expanded their vision by opening the doors to their dedicated roastery in Geraldine—creating a community hub where locals and visitors can explore coffee knowledge and experiment with different brew methods.
When it comes to the beans in your cup, Southbound keeps things fresh and ethical. Every coffee they offer is roasted in small batches for peak flavor and is sourced as responsibly as possible—traceable down to at least the co-op level to ensure fair relationships and transparency with growers.
